Lewisville High School Cheer Wins UIL State Title
“It was amazing,” Captain Angel Piers said. “We had been working so hard for months on end in hopes of becoming state champions, and we achieved our goal. After coming so close to winning last year, we knew this was something we had to focus on, and that's what we did.”
Captain Landyn Gage said the squad’s hard work paid off.
“It was exciting and a relief,” Gage said. “All of the late practices, injuries, tears, and heartache proved to be worth it in the end.”
Added LHS Head Cheerleading Coach Jill Van Klink: “I felt proud that everyone got to see the incredibly talented athletes we have at Lewisville High School and that I get to coach. We set a goal as a team, have worked continuously since last August, and performed at a high level of excellence in prelims and finals. It all paid off and has set the tone going into nationals in February.”
The cheerleaders, alongside their families, were recognized Jan. 27, during halftime of the LHS vs. Marcus High School varsity boys basketball game. The Farmers hope to bring home another championship when the squad competes in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA)’s Large Varsity Coed division at the National High School Cheerleading Championship Feb. 11-12 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.
