LISD Profile: LISD's Secondary Curriculum and Programs Director Karen Sealy
Read our latest profile about Lewisville ISD (LISD)'s Secondary Curriculum and Programs Director Karen Sealy, who discusses her favorite thing about the district; what she enjoys doing in her spare time; and something most people do not know about her.
LISD: What
do you do for our district?
Karen Sealy (KS): I currently serve in the
role of Secondary Curriculum and Programs Director. In this role, I am blessed to collaborate and
partner with campus principals and work alongside content supervisors and
teachers to maximize learning experiences for students at the secondary level.
LISD: What is your favorite thing about being a part of LISD?
KS: My favorite thing about being a part of LISD is most definitely the people. The relationships that I have been able to form around the district have been the foundation for what I believe about teaching and learning. The innovative spirit that abounds is contagious.
LISD: Growing up, was there an educator who specifically impacted your life?
KS: My high school band director, Randy Storie, from Lee High School in Midland, Texas probably had the most impact on my life. Mr. Storie was absolutely relentless in his commitment to excellence. While his tactics and motivational methods were not always conventional, you never, ever lost sight of how much he cared about you. He instilled in me a deep appreciation for the arts, taught me that shared goals always require significant individual commitments, and convinced me that success is always as result of the hard work and practice that no one will ever see.
LISD: If you could be any storybook character, who would you be?
KS: Nancy Drew was always my favorite. She had a way of unraveling mysteries that was mesmerizing to me. Her impulsive and headstrong nature was the complete opposite of how I saw myself, but I was always impressed by her wisdom and ability to piece together a good mystery.
LISD: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
KS: Most mornings, you will find me outside in the dark doing some kind of distance running or exercise class. I like to be finished before the sun comes up. I also enjoy spending time with my two rescue dogs, Abby and Rosco.
LISD: What is one thing that most would not know about you?
KS: In high school, I was an All State flute player and was voted Miss Texas Tech Band Camp for two summers in a row by my musical peers. There was no sash or crown associated with this title, so evidence of this accomplishment is limited. My only real claim to fame.
LISD: What has been your greatest success or favorite moment since entering the education field?
KS: Definitely not a favorite
moment, but one of great impact recently was attending the memorial service of
the band director that I mentioned above. Held at the high school, it was like walking back in time. As ex-students flooded the band hall, we were
instantly struck with the deepest of appreciations for all that this man had
given to us as our teacher, most of which we were not mature enough to
completely understand at the time. My
tears turned to laughter as our escapades were shared, then to the enormity of
his impact and role in my life today. What other profession offers such influence over the lives, spirits, and
futures of others? I am so proud to take
on the role of educator, understand the charge, and strive to do so with
enthusiasm and humility.
