Dear Parents,
WOW! What a busy month October
has been for all of us here at Thomas O. Hicks. Thanks for
everyone’s support with our recent fundraiser. This was our first Fun Run
in the history of the school and despite the bad weather, it was a rousing
success. Thanks to the wonderful Hicks PTA for their tireless work for
the Fun Run and the Night of the Superstars. A good time was had by
all. Remind your child to please collect all their pledges from the
run. These are due this Friday, Oct. 30.
First grade visited Frisco Fire Town
the first part of October and learned all about fire safety and staying
safe. This is always a fun trip for our first graders. Kindergarten
will be touring the Flower Mound pumpkin patch Friday and they will return to
school with their very own pumpkin. Second grade will be touring the new
Cowboys Stadium in Arlington this week. Thanks to all the parents who so
generously give of their time to chaperone the many field trips that happen
here all year long.
Remember to go on-line to lisd.net
and fill out a volunteer background check. LISD has converted to a new
software system for volunteer background checks so if you completed one last
year, you will need to complete a new background check this year. It
takes approximately three weeks for your background check to clear so plan
accordingly.
October is also Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. I have given the students a
challenge: If we raise $3000 by the end of October, I will dye my hair pink. The class with the largest
amounts of cash donations will be the hair stylists and this will occur at our
next Wolf Call. Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Hale will also have the winning
class color their hair pink.
Please support this worthy cause. We are so close to our school goal of
$3000 and our campus is so giving I know we can do it! As of this
morning, our total collected is $1700. Checks can be made out to the
Komen Foundation.
This week is Red Ribbon Week, drug awareness week, and the students have been enjoying
the special activities planned for this week. Please check your child’s
teachers’ website for more information about all the classroom and school
activities happening on a daily basis. Also make sure you check your
child’s individual planner each evening and the Tuesday Newsday Folder for
important school information.
Do you know you can check your
child’s grades on-line? Ask your child’s teacher for more information.
