Attention Substitute Teacher Candidates
You ARE REQUIRED to download and print a copy of the Substitute Handbook (PDF) to be admitted to the Substitute Training Session.

Substitutes play an important role in educating the children of LISD.  Every time a substitute is utilized in the classroom, education moves forward one day.  On a typical day, LISD places approximately 250 substitutes in its classrooms. 

LISD also uses substitutes for its paraprofessional staff needs (clerical and aides), as well as nursing and cafeteria needs.


How to Become a Substitute Teacher:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a minimum of 48 hours college credit
  • The Sub Application must be printed, filled out, and submitted in person on designated sub application days (click here)
  • Attend the mandatory substitute training session on designated day (click here)

Required documents to submit with application:

  • Proper Identification - the list of acceptable documents is found on back of the I-9 form contained in substitute application.
  • Proof of Education - Must bring PHOTO COPIES of College transcripts showing 48 hours, Degree and/or Proof of Teacher Certification

Please be aware of the following:

  • Photo for I D badge will be taken the day application is submitted.
  • Substitute applications are accepted on designated dates in two phases on a First-come First-served basis from applicants with proper paperwork for each training session (link to training session information ):
    • Certified or 4-year degree Applicants will be accepted 10 a.m. - noon.
    • If spaces are still available, applications from those with 48 College Hours or more will be accepted 2:00pm - 3:00pm (After 11:30am that day CALL the Admin Bldg 469.713.5200 or 469.948.8031 to verify there are still available spaces.)
  • Once a training session is filled, no further applications will be accepted until the next scheduled date.
  • You must attend the MANDATORY Sub Training Session. Please make necessary arrangements for transportation, child care, etc.

What to wear:

  • We respectfully request you dress in "business casual" for both the application submission session and the substitute training session. Thank you.

Rate of Pay for Substitute Teachers

Substitute Teachers

Pay for consecutive days 1-15 when working for the same Professional employee:

Non-degreed substitute
= $69
4-year degreed substitute = $76
Certified substitute = $86

Pay for consecutive days 16+ when working for the same Professional employee. This pay rate is not retro-active for days 1-15.

Non-degreed substitute = $80
4 year Degreed substitute = $100
Certified Substitute = $120


P.A.S. (Principal's Alternative to Suspension): If you are replacing a Professional (High School), you will receive the rate for a Professional. If you are replacing a Paraprofessional (middle and elementary school), you will receive the Paraprofessional rate.


Substitute Paraprofessionals

Pay for consecutive days 1-15 when working for the same Paraprofessional employee (clerical and aides):

Non-degreed, 4-year degreed or Certified substitute = $63

Pay for consecutive days 16+ when working for the same Paraprofessional employee (clerical and aides). This pay is not retro-active for days 1-15:

Non-degreed, 4 year degreed or Certified substitute =$65

Administration Buildings

Working hours are longer (8:00 AM to 4:30 PM) at the Administration Building, Bolin Center, Administrative Annex, Student Services and Special Ed Buildings.

Pay for consecutive days 1-15 when working for the same Administrative Paraprofessional employee (clerical):
Non Degreed, 4 year Degreed or Certified Substitute = $68

Pay for consecutive days 16+ when working for the same Administrative Paraprofessional employee (clerical). This pay rate is not retro-active for days 1-15:
Non-degreed, 4 year degreed, or Certified substitute = $70

 

Substitute Nurses


Required to attend a health room orientation conducted by the Director of Health Services prior to working - call 469.948.2005 to register
 
Substitute Cafeteria Personnel

Potential cafeteria substitutes should call our Child Nutrition Department at 469.948.8041.
