    The Colony High School will dedicate the school's gymnasium in honor of Coach Tommy Thomas on Jan. 22. A reception will be held from 5 - 6 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m.

    Coach Thomas coached boys basketball at TCHS for nearly 20 years. He remains close to the The Colony High School family and currently resides in the Houston area.

    Early Education screenings on Jan. 24 - 25

    The LISD Special Education Department will hold Early Education screenings from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Jan. 24 - 25 to identify children residing in the district who may have a disability. Screening times will be assigned by appointment.

    A child who needs to be screened is one who does not appear to act, see, hear, speak, understand or learn as others of his/her age. The tests include a vision and hearing screenings, as well as motor, language and learning tasks.

    Memorial honoring fallen soldiers comes to Flower Mound

    Former LISD students who have lost their lives in Desert Storm, Desert Shield and the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are being honored in a memorial currently on display at Flower Mound Town Hall, 2121 Cross Timbers Road.

    The memorial travels to north Texas cities that have had a resident killed in battle, or upon request. Former LISD student Jacob Lugo, who was a Flower Mound resident and died while serving his country in Iraq in 2004, is one of many honored in this display. The memorial will be at town hall through Jan. 17.

    Marcus High School presents The Wiz

    The Marcus High School Theatre Department will present The Wiz, a jazzy musical based on The Wizard of Oz, on Jan. 24 - 27 and Jan. 31 - Feb. 3.

    Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the Thursday - Saturday dates. There will also be matinée performances on the Saturday and Sunday dates at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door for adults and $10 in advance. Student and senior tickets are $8 at the door and $5 in advance. Group rates are available.

    TCHS Choir to perform

    The Colony High School Tempo Choir will present Annie, a Broadway musical based on the Little Orphan Annie comic strip, on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. and on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the school's performing arts center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the door.

    FMHS to present Titanic the Musical

    Flower Mound High School's Performing Arts Department will perform Titanic the Musical on Jan. 24 - 26 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the school's Jack and Donna Clark Auditorium. General admission tickets are $8 and reserved tickets are $12 - $15.

    Greater Lewisville Special Education PTSA holds upcoming events

    The Greater Lewisville Special Education PTSA will hold the following activities in the upcoming weeks:

    Feb. 7 - Question and Answer session with Dr. Paula Walker, LISD Special Education's director from 7 - 9 p.m. Send questions to Stacey Amick at stacey.amick@verizon.net.

    Feb. 12 - The Special Education Department will host a discussion on summer school at noon in the Student Services Building. A brown bag lunch will be served. Please RSVP to Stacey Amick.

    Feb. 28 - A discussion will be held concerning toilet training for children with developmental disabilities from 7 - 9 p.m.

    LHS teacher receives Lions Club fellowship
    Lewisville High School teacher Sally Squibb recently became the first non-Lions Club member to receive the organization's Melvin Jones Fellowship.

    The Melvin Jones Fellowship, named after the founder of Lions Club International, is the highest recognition conferred by the foundation for an individual's humanitarian efforts.

    Squibb was honored for her 15 years of service to the Lions Club. She regularly sponsors students in the organization's annual Drug Awareness Scholarship Speech Contest, the Diabetic Essay Scholarship Contest and the Outstanding Youth Scholarship Award competition. Her students are perennial winners in each of the three activities.

    As a Melvin Jones Fellow, Squibb's name has been added to the Lions Club International exhibit that shows the listing of all individuals in the program. Additionally, a $1,000 Lions Club International Fellowship has been named after her.
