    Applications are now being accepted for the Safe & Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) Task Force.

    The goal of the SDFSC Task Force is to bring together a cross section of our communities to address factors contributing to substance abuse and promote protective factors that decrease incidences of substance abuse. This will be accomplished through the work of 4 committees to promote awareness, education, support and enforcement.

    LISD holds annual student art exhibit

    LISD is presenting its annual student art exhibit now through April 29 at The Art Gallery, 701 S. Stemmons in Lewisville (behind the Black-eyed Pea).
    Early Education Screenings taking place April 26-27
    .

    LISD's Special Education department will hold early education screenings on April 26 - 27 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to identify children residing in the district who may have a disability. Screening times will be assigned by appointment.

    A child who needs to be screened is one who does not appear to act, see, hear, speak, understand or learn as others of his or her age. The tests include vision and a hearing screening, as well as motor, language and learning tasks.

    If you have a child who is at least 33-months-old, and who is suspected of having a disability, call the special education office at 469-713-5203 for an appointment. If your child is younger, but you are concerned, you may call the special education office or one of the following early childhood intervention programs.

    Special Care and Career Services (ECI) - 972-991-6777, serving the LISD north Carrollton area.

    ECI of Dallas Metrocare Services - 214-331-0109, serving the LISD are in far west Bluebonnet Elementary area.

    Infant and Toddler Intervention Program of North Texas - 940-536-1192, serving the rest of the LISD area.

    Have a signed consent form filled out prior to the appointment if a person other than the parent or legal guardian will bring the child to the screening. Forms are available at the Special Education office, 400 W. Main St. in Lewisville.

    Killian Middle School PTA forming

    Future members of the Killian Middle School PTA are invited to attend a meeting on April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Creek Valley Middle School cafeteria.

    At the meeting, bylaws will be presented for adopting and members will be enrolled as well as officers elected. To submit your name to the nomination committee, contact Colleen Moore at moores4@grandecom.net.

    The Colony Early Childhood PTA to meet

    The Colony Early Childhood PTA will hold its next meeting on May 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 4901 Paige Rd. in The Colony.

    During the meeting, the group will be inducting new officers and holding a silent auction. Reservations for childcare during the meeting may be made by sending an e-mail to Melanie at nusery@tcecpta.org .     Parents of Dyslexic Students to meet

    The organization Parents of Dyslexic Students and the LISD Special Education Department will host a meeting on April 25 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the LISD Student Services Building, 400 W. Main in Lewisville.

    Parents of Dyslexic Students is an informal network of parents coming together to share strategies, solutions and hands-on learning tools to benefit the children's total educational and life experiences. For more information, go to www.lisd-pods.org.

    Wellington Elementary collects items for spring service project

    Wellington Elementary is collecting infant and children's items for the Vogel Alcove Childcare Center for the Homeless until April 27.

    The school is collecting the following: powdered baby formula, diapers, wipes, baby toiletries, umbrellas, gently-used children's clothes, Band-aids, new underwear and socks as well as infant and toddler socks.

    Carrollton Early Childhood PTA to meet

    The Carrollton Early Childhood PTA will meet May 11 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Covenant Church, located at the intersection of Peters Colony and Josey Lane in Carrollton.

    This will be the group's last meeting until September and will feature a brunch and the annual installment of new officers for the next year.

    Child care is available for first-time visitors and a small charge for returning members. For more information, visit www.cecpta.org.

    The Colony High School Choir to perform

    The Colony High School Tempo Choir will present Listen to the Music, a song and dance extravaganza on April 27-28 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's auditorium.

    Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students.

    Hicks Elementary hosting carnival

    Hicks Elementary PTA and staff will host its third annual carnival on April 28 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

    Lewisville High School Orchestra to perform

    The Lewisville High School Orchestra has been invited to perform at the State Capitol building in Austin on April 25 at noon in the Rotunda Room. The public is invited to attend.

    Coyote Ridge holds spring carnival

    Coyote Ridge Elementary will host its spring carnival Ride the Wave on April 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

    Marcus plant sale still going on

    The Marcus High School Orchestra's plant sale will be held one more weekend in the school's parking lot - April 28-29.

    Milliken Middle School has reunion

    Former Milliken Middle School administrators and faculty members will reunite in the library of the old school on April 28 at 5 p.m.

    Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The former Milliken Middle School, now the Milliken Education Center, is located at 2103 Savage Lane in Lewisville.

    LISD Education Foundation hosts Spring Fling
    The LISD Education Foundation (LEF) will host its Spring Fling on May 19 from 1 - 6 p.m. at Hawaiian Falls, 4400 Paige Rd. in The Colony.

    Tickets are $10, $2 of which goes to LEF. Hot dog or hamburger meals will be $3.50 and an all-day drink pass is $3.99.
