    Congratulations to the girls soccer team from The Colony High School and the Marcus High School boys soccer team who claimed their UIL 4A State Soccer title and UIL 5A State Soccer title, respectively.

    The Lady Cougars are coached by Nicole Jund and the Marauders are coached by John Gall.

    The Lady Marauders soccer team also deserve recognition. They lost in the state semi-finals to Plano West. They are coached by Kevin Albury.

    Killian Middle School PTA forming

    Future members of the Killian Middle School PTA are invited to attend a meeting on April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Creek Valley Middle School cafeteria.

    At the meeting, bylaws will be presented for adopting and members will be enrolled as well as officers elected. To submit your name to the nomination committee, contact Colleen Moore at moores4@grandecom.net.

    Early Education Screenings taking place April 26-27

    LISD's Special Education department will hold early education screenings on April 26 - 27 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to identify children residing in the district who may have a disability. Screening times will be assigned by appointment.

    A child who needs to be screened is one who does not appear to act, see, hear, speak, understand or learn as others of his or her age. The tests include vision and a hearing screening, as well as motor, language and learning tasks.

    If you have a child who is at least 33-months-old, and who is suspected of having a disability, call the special education office at 469-713-5203 for an appointment. If your child is younger, but you are concerned, you may call the special education office or one of the following early childhood intervention programs.

    ECI of Dallas Metrocare Services - 214-331-0109, serving the LISD are in far west Bluebonnet Elementary area.

    Infant and Toddler Intervention Program of North Texas - 940-536-1192, serving the rest of the LISD area.

    Have a signed consent form filled out prior to the appointment if a person other than the parent or legal guardian will bring the child to the screening. Forms are available at the Special Education office, 400 W. Main St. in Lewisville.

    LISD holds annual student art exhibit

    LISD will present its annual student art exhibit from April 20 - 29 at The Art Gallery, 701 S. Stemmons in Lewisville (behind the Black-eyed Pea).

    There will be an opening reception and awards ceremony on April 20 from 7 - 9 p.m. in the gallery.

    LISD Council of PTAs hosts vendor fair

    The LISD Council of PTAs will host a vendor fair on April 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at Killough Lewisville High School - North.

    Anyone needing to raise funds for an organization is encouraged to come and see what more than 100 area vendors have to offer. The PTA with the most attendees will win $100. The fair is open to the community.

    LISD to hold paraprofessional job fair

    LISD will hold a paraprofessional job fair on June 1 from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Timber Creek Elementary School.

    Applications must be received prior to May 23. Applicants should bring a current resume indicating at least two years of experience working in the field in which they seek employment.

    Students invited to Academy Day

    Five members of Congress will hold a joint Academy Day on April 21 for students interested in attending one of the five U.S. Military Service Academies at the Tarrant County College Northeast Campus in the Fine Arts Theatre, Room NFAB1205, 828 Harwood Rd. in Hurst.

    Representatives from each of the military service academies will make a presentation. These institutions include the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

    Parents of Dyslexic Students to meet

    The organization Parents of Dyslexic Students will meet on April 25 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the LISD Student Services Building, 400 W. Main in Lewisville.

    Parents of Dyslexic Students is an informal network of parents coming together to share strategies, solutions and hands-on learning tools to benefit the children's total educational and life experiences. For more information, go to www.lisd-pods.org.

    Bluebonnet holds blood drive

    Bluebonnet Elementary will hold a blood drive for Carter Blood Care on April 20 from 1 - 7 p.m. To donate blood, make an appointment by contacting Lori Bach at 972-355-3941.

    Vickery Elementary hosts spring carnival

    Vickery Elementary will hosts its third annual spring carnival on April 28 from 1 - 4 p.m.

    There will be many games, prizes and a dunk tank for staff members to get soaked. For more information, contact Valerie Boles at 972-956-8118.

    Essay contest winners to be honored

    Contestants in the Denton Area Alliance of Black School Educators' 8th annual MLK Essay Contest will be recognized at the North Texas Book Festival on April 21 during the 12:15 p.m. Breakout Session at the Center for the Visual Arts, 400 E. Hickory in Denton.

    LISD Council of PTAs host parent involvement roundtable

    The LISD Council of PTAs will sponsor a parent involvement roundtable meeting for PTA members on April 28 from 10 - 11 a.m. at Killough Lewisville High School - North.

    Marcus Theatre presents Radium Girls

    The Marcus High School Theatre Department will present Radium Girls May 3 - 5 at 7:30 p.m. and on May 6 at 2:30 p.m.

    Performances will take place at the Larry Sigler Auditorium inside the high school. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students. One can buy tickets prior to the performance through e-mail at mhstabc@yahoo.com.

    Applications are now being accepted for the Safe & Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) Task Force.

    The goal of the SDFSC Task Force is to bring together a cross section of our communities to address factors contributing to substance abuse and promote protective factors that decrease incidences of substance abuse. This will be accomplished through the work of 4 committees to promote awareness, education, support and enforcement.
