LISD Adult and Community Ed. summer schedule
    .
LISD's Adult and Community Education department recently released its summer class schedule.

This summer, LISD Adult and Community Education teamed up with LISD's Special Education Department and LISD Council of PTAs to pilot a program for special education students. Social skills, fine motor skills, reading and speech classes will be offered along with parent education classes for those caregivers of children with learning difficulties. The name of the program is Me First, since the emphasis is on helping children gain confidence in these skill areas.

Other new programs include kids' cooking classes, dance fever and modeling bootcamp, Media Arts Camp and photography classes.

All sneezes are not created equal
    .

Dr. Annie Phillip, medical director of PediPlace, wants to remind parents that children who have a runny nose, watery eyes and are sneezing may not have allergies.

Some may have an infection, which is indicated by a fever on top of the other symptoms. Most symptoms related to a virus can be treated within 1-2 weeks through over the counter medications.

If symptoms persist, consult a pediatrician to determine if the child might have allergies. There are many studies that have looked at the impact of allergies on children and their ability to learn and focus in school. Appropriate treatment can benefit children by allowing them to rest better at night and as a result, learn and behave better in school.
