    LISD's Adult and Community Education department recently released its summer class schedule.

    This summer, LISD Adult and Community Education teamed up with LISD's Special Education Department and LISD Council of PTAs to pilot a program for special education students. Social skills, fine motor skills, reading and speech classes will be offered along with parent education classes for those caregivers of children with learning difficulties. The name of the program is Me First, since the emphasis is on helping children gain confidence in these skill areas.

    Other new programs include kids cooking classes, dance fever and modeling bootcamp, Media Arts Camp and photography classes.

    LISD to hold job fairs

    LISD's annual Super Teacher Job Fair will take place April 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Flower Mound High School, 3411 Peters Colony Blvd. in Flower Mound.

    LISD will hold a paraprofessional job fair on June 1 from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Timber Creek Elementary School.

    Applications must be received prior to May 23. Applicants should bring a current resume indicating at least two years of experience working in the field in which they seek employment.

    CISNT helping student's family

    A fund has been established through Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to benefit the Cirksena family.

    Seventeen-month-old Tatyanna Cirksena died suddenly on March 13. Tatyanna's sister is a first-grade student at Indian Creek Elementary School. The family is in great financial need.

    DeLay Middle School and CISNT to host health fair

    DeLay Middle School and Communities In Schools of North Texas are hosting a Healthy Lifestyles Health Fair on April 3.

    This free event will be held at the school, located at 136 Purnell in Lewisville, from 6 - 9 p.m. It is open to the community with the goal of providing free screenings and information on healthy lifestyles. It will have a carnival atmosphere with face painting, free balloons from the Lewisville Fire Clowns and lots of freebies.

    The health fair will provide free immunizations for children from six months to 18 years of age, spinal screenings, blood pressure and glucose screenings as well as body fat screenings. Families can apply for low cost insurance for uninsured children and women through Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicaid. Women may sign-up for low-cost mammograms. People 17 years and older can donate blood and have a chance to win a $100 or $1,000 makeover.

    An application drive for CHIP and Medicaid, in addition to two new programs, CHIP Perinatal and the Texas Women's Health Program, is included in the health fair. The CHIP program provides low cost health and dental insurance for uninsured children of families with incomes from $19,600 - $67,200, and family members ages 1 - 8, respectively.

    Board of Trustees to hold regular monthly meeting April 23

    The LISD Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting on April 23 at the Bolin Administrative Center, 1565 W. Main St. in Lewisville.

    Marcus orchestra to hold annual plant sale

    The Marcus High School orchestra will host its annual plant sale on the weekends of April 14 - 15, 21-22 and 28-29.

    McKamy Middle School to host abstinence program

    McKamy Middle School will host the abstinence program Aim for Success for the eighth-grade students on April 25. There will be a parent preview of the program on April 3 at 7 p.m. at the school.

    Greater Lewisville Early Childhood PTA to hold spring auction and brunch

    The Greater Lewisville Early Childhood PTA will hold its annual spring auction and brunch April 16 from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the Flower Mound United Methodist Church, located at 3950 Bruton Orand Blvd.

    Tickets are now on sale for $8 per person. Some of the auction's donors include Sea World of San Antonio, the Texas Rangers, Interskate, Village Grill, Fish City Grill, Scrapbook Warehouse and the Dr. Phil show.

    Hebron's Colorguard to hold garage sale

    The Hebron High School Colorguard will hold its second annual garage sale on April 21 from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, located at 1200 Hebron Parkway in Carrollton.

    Special Olympics to hold fundraising golf tournament

    The Flower Mound Mustangs Special Olympic team is holding a golf tournament in an effort to raise funds for the organization on April 23 at the Tour 18 Golf Club, located at 8718 Amen Corner in Flower Mound.

    FMHS Cross Country and Track Booster Club sponsoring 1-mile run for elementary students

    The Flower Mound High School Cross Country and Track Booster Club is sponsoring an End of School 1-mile run for LISD students in grades 1-5 on May 5.

    Each registered participant will be eligible to compete for trophies for first through third place in their divisions and all remaining runners will receive a medal upon the completion of the one mile run. In addition, the school with the most participants will be awarded the "Traveling Trophy" for the year, which is currently held by Liberty Elementary.

    Marcus Football Booster Club hosts golf tournament

    The Marcus High School Football Booster Club is hosting a fundraising golf tournament on May 6 at 2 p.m. at the Bridlewood Golf Club.

    Degan Elementary to hold garage sale

    Degan Elementary will host a "Clean Sweep" garage sale on April 14 at the school from 7 a.m. to noon.
