    LISD's Board of Trustees election will be held on May 12 for the purpose of electing three members to serve three-year terms for Place 3, Place 4, and Place 5. Information on candidate filing can be obtained at 1800 Timber Creek Rd. in Flower Mound. Candidate filing ends March 12.

    Early voting will take place from April 30 - May 8. For a list of polling places, click here, en espaņol.

    Killian MS PTA starting to organize
    .
    A meeting has been scheduled at 7 p.m. on March 29 at Creek Valley Middle School to begin the process of organizing a PTA for Killian Middle School, which will open at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year.

    Parents who will have children attending the school are invited to come hear the procedures for starting a new PTA. The bylaws and nominating committees will be formed at this meeting.

    The PTA will be officially organized at the following meeting at 7 p.m. on April 25 at Creek Valley. During this meeting, bylaws will be approved, membership dues collected and officers will be elected.

    CISNT holds annual fundraising dinner

    Communities in Schools of North Texas will hold its fifth annual Celebrating Success fundraising dinner on March 30 at the University of North Texas Gateway Center in Denton.

    Tickets are $50 each and include dinner, award ceremony, live music and a silent auction. Proceeds from the dinner will go towards CISNT, a dropout prevention program in Denton and Wise County, as well as the University of North Texas American Humanic student organization.

    CECPTA announces March meeting

    Carrollton Early Childhood PTA will have its next meeting on March 9 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Covenant Church, located at Josey Lane and Peters Colony in Carrollton.

    March's meeting will feature Kimberly Higgins of Texas' Child Protective Services, who will discuss the definitions, signs and prevalence of abuse and neglect in children.

    Writing contest entries being accepted

    All LISD third-through fifth-graders are invited to submit their favorite piece of narrative writing to be considered for the second annual District Writing Project by March 16.

    Entries will be evaluated on originality, organization and coherence, development of ideas, focus on selected topic and voice. Three authors from each grade level will be recognized with certificates and trophies at a reception on May 7 at Huffines Middle School.

    To submit a piece for the competition, simply give entries to the student's teacher. For further questions, send an e-mail to thompsona@lisd.net.

    Hedrick Elementary hosting shrimp night

    Hedrick Elementary will host shrimp night on March 15 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the school.

    Proceeds will go towards Camp Goddard. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students ages 6-11 and children ages 5 and under are free. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

    The Colony Early Childhood PTA to meet

    The Colony Early Childhood PTA will hold its monthly meeting on March 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 4901 Paige Rd. in The Colony.

    This month's topic is Creating traditions in your family, presented by Once Upon a Family representative Amy Gil.

    Reservations for childcare during the meeting are required and can be made by contacting Melanie at nursery@tcecpta.org. All families with children up to age 5 are invited to attend. For more information, go to www.tcecpta.org or call Diana at 972-370-5901.

    Hebron High School's Silver Wings perform Spring Show

    The Hebron High School Silver Wings Drill team will perform its Spring Show at 7 p.m. on March 9 in the school's auditorium.

    Tickets are $10 at the door.

    Donald Elementary hosts open house

    Donald Elementary will hold its annual open house on March 8 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. At the open house, parents can visit their child's classroom and view their work.

    Donald Elementary will also hold its spring book fair March 5-9 from 7:40 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. every day. The book fair will also be open during the school's open house.

    LISD Super Teacher Job Fair coming
    LISD's annual Super Teacher Job Fair will take place April 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Flower Mound High School, 3411 Peters Colony Blvd. in Flower Mound.

    Representatives from 63 elementary, middle and high school campuses from across the district will be available to meet candidates. The registration deadline is April 4.

    No registration fee is required. However, a completed application on file in the LISD Human Resources Services Department is required. A completed application on file includes a valid teaching certificate, or proof of certification/testing for certification, copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, resume and completed addendum.

    A certified candidate is an individual who currently holds a standard, provisional or professional Texas Certification or who is currently certified in another state. Current alternative certification candidates or non-certified applicants are not candidates.
