Community responds to family in need

Communities in Schools of North Texas is proud to say that the overwhelming community response has successfully met the needs of the Vasquez family who lost two children and their home in a fire on Feb. 23. Nellie Apodaca, the CISNT campus staff member at Central Elementary School, reported that individuals, church groups, civic organizations and businesses have stepped forward to help the family. Additional needs for the Vasquez family, as they surface, will be communicated through CISNT's website at www.cisnt.org.

LISD Super Teacher Job Fair coming

LISD's annual Super Teacher Job Fair will take place April 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Flower Mound High School, 3411 Peters Colony Blvd. in Flower Mound. Representatives from 63 elementary, middle and high school campuses from across the district will be available to meet candidates. The registration deadline is April 4. No registration fee is required. However, a completed application on file in the LISD Human Resources Services Department is required. A completed application on file includes a valid teaching certificate, or proof of certification/testing for certification, copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, resume and completed addendum. A certified candidate is an individual who currently holds a standard, provisional or professional Texas Certification or who is currently certified in another state. LISD receives 22 awards for school communications

LISD received 22 awards for excellence in school communications at the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards Banquet on Feb. 22 during the organization's annual conference in Austin. Each year TSPRA, with more than 800 members, recognizes school communicators for outstanding work in both print and electronic media. More than 1,000 entries were received this year. Entries selected as best in the state were honored with Gold Star, Silver Star and Best of Category Awards. LISD's entries competed against school districts with more than 30,000 students. Public swim free this week at Aquatic Center The LISD Aquatic Center will be free during public swim times this week in honor of the facility's official ribbon cutting that took place on Monday. LHS PTA to hold Farmer Auction The Lewisville High School PTA will hold its annual Farmer Auction on March 2 in the school's cafeteria. The preview will start at 6 p.m. and the auction will start at 7 p.m. Food from Landmark Grill will be available. FMHS Rosettes to perform Spring Show The Flower Mound High School Rosettes will present their annual Spring Show March 1-3 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Advance tickets are available for $5 general seating and $10 reserved seating. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $8 general seating and $12 reserved seating. CECPTA announces March meeting Carrollton Early Childhood PTA will have its next meeting on March 9 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Covenant Church, located at Josey Lane and Peters Colony in Carrollton. March's meeting will feature Kimberly Higgins of Texas' Child Protective Services, who will discuss the definitions, signs and prevalence of abuse and neglect in children. Writing contest entries being accepted All LISD third-through fifth-graders are invited to submit their favorite piece of narrative writing to be considered for the second annual District Writing Project by March 16. Entries will be evaluated on originality, organization and coherence, development of ideas, focus on selected topic and voice. Three authors from each grade level will be recognized with certificates and trophies at a reception on May 7 at Huffines Middle School. Hebron HS to host Percussion Concert Hebron High School will host a Percussion Concert on March 10 at 3 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Percussion ensembles from Creek Valley and Arbor Creek Middle Schools will also perform as well as 14-time Grammy nominated percussionist Will Kennedy.
