    LISD had two winners in the Texas Computer Education Association's annual state awards.

    Durham Middle School teacher Renee Marts won Teacher of the Year and Marcus High School principal was named the Administrator of the Year.

    LISD also had four other finalists who were nominated for awards. They include the following:

    Dr. Jerry Roy - Superintendent of the Year

    Barbara Brown - Technology Administrator of the Year

    Valerie Hill - Librarian of the Year - Ethridge Elementary

    Char Kyle - Technical Support Person of the Year

    Greater Lewisville Special Education PTA hosts event

    The Greater Lewisville Special Education PTA is sponsoring "Planning for the future of your child or dependent with special needs," a program discussing financial planning for families of children with special needs. The event will take place on Feb. 22, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the LISD Special Services Building, 400 W. Main St. in Lewisville.

    The guest speaker will be TJ Kroehle, a certified life planning professional with more than 30 years of experience assisting families with special needs.

    Registration is preferred to ensure the availability of materials, but walk-ins are welcome.

    Early Education screenings scheduled

    LISD Special Education Department will conduct Early Education screenings on Feb. 22 - 23 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to identify children residing in the district who may have a disability. Screening times will be assigned by appointment.

    A child who needs to be screened is one who does not appear to act, see, hear, speak, understand or learn as others of his/her age. The tests include vision and hearing screening, as well as motor, language and learning tests.

    Children who have a disability are eligible to receive instructional and related services from age three or from birth if visually or hearing impaired.

    If you have a child who is suspected of having a disability, and is at least 2 years, 9 months old, call the Special Education office at 469-713-5203 for an appointment.

    If the child is younger than the required age, but you are concerned, one may call the Special Education office or one of the following Early Childhood Intervention programs:

    Special Care and Career Services - serving the LISD north Carrollton area, 972-991-6777.

    ECI of Dallas Metrocare Services - serving LISD students in far west Bluebonnet Elementary area, 214-331-0109.

    Infant and Toddler Intervention Program of North Texas - serving the remainder of LISD, 940-536-1192.

    It is acceptable to have a babysitter or other family member bring your child to the screening; however, a signed consent form must be received prior to the screening time.

    Forms are available at the Special Education office located at 400 W. Main St. in Lewisville, in the event you cannot accompany your child to the screening.

    Monopoly tournament scheduled for Feb. 24

    LISD's Adult and Community Education Department will host a Monopoly tournament on Feb. 24, which will be sponsored by Hasbro games and area businesses. Proceeds will benefit adult literacy programs through the LISD Adult and Community Education.

    Individuals or groups are invited to play. Prizes will be awarded to first place winners. No tournament experience is necessary.

    McKamy Middle School is hosting a golf tournament benefiting the Lady Knights' athletics activities on April 1 at the Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound.

    Community invited to regional Destination ImagiNation tournament

    The TVNC Regional Destination ImagiNation tournament will be held March 3 at Old Settlers Elementary and McKamy Middle School, starting at 8 a.m.

    LHS PTA to hold Farmer Auction

    The Lewisville High School PTA will hold its annual Farmer Auction on March 2 in the school's cafeteria.

    The preview will start at 6 p.m. and the auction will start at 7 p.m. Food from Landmark Grill will be available.

    Griffin Middle School to host college and career fair

    Griffin Middle School is inviting the community to attend its March Madness College and Career Fair on March 6 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the school.

    The purpose of the event is to educate students on various paths they may choose once they graduate from high school. There will be a drawing for a college savings bond, as well as several other college and career giveaways.

    LHS Band Boosters to meet

    The Lewisville High School Band Boosters will meet Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in the band hall.

    FMHS Rosettes to perform Spring Show

    The Flower Mound High School Rosettes will present their annual Spring Show March 1-3 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium.

    Advance tickets are available for $5 general seating and $10 reserved seating. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $8 general seating and $12 reserved seating.

    McAuliffe Elementary holding Chili Cook-Off

    McAuliffe Elementary will host its second annual Chili Cook-Off on Feb. 22 from 5 - 8 p.m.

    The community is invited to participate in the food and games. Bracelets are $10 for unlimited play time and food tickets will be available at the door. Outback Steakhouse will cater the event.

    LISD Super Teacher Job Fair coming
    LISD's annual Super Teacher Job Fair will take place April 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Flower Mound High School, 3411 Peters Colony Blvd. in Flower Mound.

    Representatives from 63 elementary, middle and high school campuses from across the district will be available to meet candidates. The registration deadline is April 4.

    No registration fee is required. However, a completed application on file in the LISD Human Resources Services Department is required. A completed application on file includes a valid teaching certificate, or proof of certification/testing for certification, copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, resume and completed addendum.

    A certified candidate is an individual who currently holds a standard, provisional or professional Texas Certification or who is currently certified in another state. Current alternative certification candidates or non-certified applicants are not candidates.
