    Forest Vista Elementary will celebrate its 10th anniversary of involvement with the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart program by attempting to raise $100,000 this year.

    During the past nine years, Forest Vista has collected almost $150,000 in donations. This year, the school is teaming up with AHA, Forestwood Middle School and Flower Mound High School to help reach this goal.

    The jump rope event will be held during classes Feb. 15 - 16. During those days, Mark Rothstein will present his motivational program stressing the importance of exercise and making good choices. Rothstein holds two world records for marathon jump roping.

    A special evening program will be held Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at the school for all Forest Vista alumni and their parents.

    Greater Lewisville Special Education PTA hosts event

    The Greater Lewisville Special Education PTA is sponsoring "Planning for the future of your child or dependent with special needs," a program discussing financial planning for families of children with special needs. The event will take place on Feb. 22, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the LISD Special Services Building, 400 W. Main St. in Lewisville.

    The guest speaker will be TJ Kroehle, a certified life planning professional with more than 30 years of experience assisting families with special needs.

    Registration is preferred to ensure the availability of materials, but walk-ins are welcome.

    Students named Presidential Scholars

    Marcus High School student Jacob West and Caroline Hamilton, a student at Lewisville High School, were recently named LISD's 2007 Presidential Scholars.

    The U.S. Presidential Scholars program recognizes high school students for their academic achievement or their success in creative writing or in the visual or performing arts.

    Up to 141 students in the country are recognized as Presidential Scholars each year. All scholars are honored for their accomplishments during the program's national recognition events, held in June in Washington, D.C.

    LHS to present Faculty Revue

    Lewisville High School will present its seventh annual Faculty Revue on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Stuver Auditorium.

    LHS faculty and staff will peform a variety of skits and songs to benefit theatre scholarships. Admission is $5 at the door.

    Stewart's Creek Elementary to hold Sweetheart Dance

    The Stewart's Creek Elementary PTA will hold a Sweetheart Dance on Feb. 16 from 7 - 10 p.m. in the cafeteria.

    Tickets are $10 per couple and $15 per family. Refreshments will be served and pictures will be available.

    Early Education screenings scheduled

    LISD Special Education Department will conduct Early Education screenings on Feb. 22 - 23 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to identify children residing in the district who may have a disability. Screening times will be assigned by appointment.

    A child who needs to be screened is one who does not appear to act, see, hear, speak, understand or learn as others of his/her age. The tests include vision and hearing screening, as well as motor, language and learning tests.

    Children who have a disability are eligible to receive instructional and related services from age three or from birth if visually or hearing impaired.

    If you have a child who is suspected of having a disability, and is at least 2 years, 9 months old, call the Special Education office at 469-713-5203 for an appointment.

    If the child is younger than the required age, but you are concerned, one may call the Special Education office or one of the following Early Childhood Intervention programs:

    Special Care and Career Services - serving the LISD north Carrollton area, 972-991-6777.

    ECI of Dallas Metrocare Services - serving LISD students in far west Bluebonnet Elementary area, 214-331-0109.

    Infant and Toddler Intervention Program of North Texas - serving the remainder of LISD, 940-536-1192.

    It is acceptable to have a babysitter or other family member bring your child to the screening; however, a signed consent form must be received prior to the screening time.

    Forms are available at the Special Education office located at 400 W. Main St. in Lewisville, in the event you cannot accompany your child to the screening.

    Forestwood to host Aim for Success program

    Forestwood Middle School PTA will host a parent preview of the abstinence program shown to students titled Aim for Success on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. following the PTA's general meeting.

    The Colony Early Childhood PTA to meet

    The Colony Early Childhood PTA will hold its monthly meeting on Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in The Colony, 4901 Paige Road.

    TCECPTA is for all individuals interested in the education and development of preschool-aged children. The group addresses common concerns and participates in activities that benefit the lives of young children and their families.

    Reservations for childcare are required and can be done by contacting Melanie at nursery@tcecpta.org. There is a $5 fee for one child and $8 for two or more.     2007 Employee of the Year nomination forms

    LISD's Employees of the Year nomination forms are online!

    The deadline for completed nominations is February 23. All non-teaching employees are eligible as well.

    Winners will be announced at LISD's Recognition & Awards Banquet on Friday, May 4, held at the Hyatt Regency DFW. Details and ticket information will be available soon.

    If selected as a finalist, the nominee will be contacted to confirm his/her attendance at the LISD Recognition & Awards Banquet.

    Monopoly tournament scheduled for Feb. 24

    LISD's Adult and Community Education Department will host a Monopoly tournament on Feb. 24, which will be sponsored by Hasbro games and area businesses. Proceeds will benefit adult literacy programs through the LISD Adult and Community Education.

    Individuals or groups are invited to play. Prizes will be awarded to first place winners. No tournament experience is necessary.

    DeLay to host low-cost insurance presentation
    DeLay Middle School is hosting a community-wide application drive for Medicaid and CHIP on Feb. 13 from 6 - 9 p.m. Childcare will be provided and a Subway dinner will be served while supplies last.

    Families with incomes up to $67,200 may qualify for health and dental insurance through the Federal/Texas Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The cost of this program is up to $50 per family every six months, with co-pays of $3-$8. Families with incomes up to $33,600 may qualify for Children's Medicaid, with no premiums or co-pays.

    Please bring the following information to apply:

    * Children's Social Security numbers

    * Proof of income for your family, such as a paycheck stub issued in the last 60 days, a letter from your employer that shows how much you're paid, or papers that show how much you receive in child support.

    * Proof of childcare or disabled adult care costs that you pay.

    * If your child is not a U.S. citizen, please bring your child's Alien Registration Card (I-551) or a copy of the front and back of the card.
