The Denton Area Alliance of Black School
Educators (DAABSE) is hosting its eighth annual
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay
Workshop/Contest on Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. - 3:30
p.m. at Fred Moore High School, 815 Crosstimbers
in Denton.

Special Education, Special Education PTSA to
host special presentation
A joint presentation by LISD's Special Education
Department and the department's PTSA will be
held on Jan. 16 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Bolin
Administrative Center in Lewisville.
The presentation, titled Key Changes in IDEA
2004, will feature Attorney Nona Matthews,
of the firm Walsh, Anderson, Brown Schulze and
Aldrige P.C.
Kristie Thomas, Ms. Wheelchair
Texas 2006, will be the special guest.
Educational professionals and parents in LISD
and other districts are encouraged to attend

Shadow Ridge MS to host abstinence program for
parents, students
Shadow
Ridge Middle School will host an abstinence
program titled Teens, Sex and Choices for
parents on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. and for students on
Jan. 19 during the school day.
The meeting will be led by Aim for Success, a
provider of sexual abstinence programs.

HHS to present Winter Musical
Hebron
High School's Performing Arts department
will present A Funny Thing Happened on the
Way to the Forum Jan. 18-19 at 7 p.m. and on
Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.

TCHS starts new tutorial program
The
Colony High School has started the HELP
Program or, the Helping Educate Learners
Program, as a new after school tutorial program.
HELP provides a place for students to go and
receive tutorials in addition to the classroom
instructor tutorials. It is available each
Monday - Thursday from 4:15- 6:15pm for the
subjects of English, math,
science and social studies. Teachers will be
present each night.

Early Childhood PTA welcomes parents to
meeting
All parents of young children are invited
Friday, Jan. 12, to the January general meeting
of the Carrollton Early Childhood PTA.
The meeting will feature a presentation by
speaker Carol Wortham about conflict resolution
for toddlers. Children in the nursery during the
meeting will be treated to a magic and juggling
act by Bryan Lankford.
The CECPTA meets monthly during the school year
at Holy Covenant Church, at Josey Lane and
Peters Colony in Carrollton. The meeting runs
from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m., and new members are
always welcome from throughout the
Carrollton/Farmers Branch area at any time of
year. Child care is available free for
first-time visitors.

and education for parents of children from

FMHS Theatre to present Thoroughly Modern
Millie
Flower
Mound High School's theatre department will
present Thoroughly Modern Millie from
Jan. 25-27 at 7 p.m. each night. There will also
be matinee presentations on Jan. 27-28 with
performances at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $8 - $15 depending on seating
section and are available for purchase starting
today, Jan. 8.

Owen Elementary to celebrate 20th anniversary
Owen
Elementary will celebrate its 20th
anniversary with a spaghetti dinner and silent
auction on Jan. 20.
Students and their families are invited to
gather and participate in the numerous
entertainment activities such as the family
dance, honor choir performance and recognition
ceremony.
Spaghetti dinner tickets are available in the
school's office. All orders must be turned in by
Jan. 13. Students and their families are welcome
to attend the event, whether or not they
participate in the spaghetti dinner.

Lewisville Chamber names school of the month;
tickets available for annual banquet
The Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce has
named Huffines Middle School as its School of
the Month. The Chamber and its Education
Committee has partnered with Lewisville State
Bank branch manager Marvin Jackson to initiate
the School of the Month program.
This program, designed to recognize LISD
campuses located within the city of Lewisville,
features one school at each monthly Chamber
luncheon.
This month the Chamber will also be hosting its
annual Denim and Diamonds banquet on Jan. 19
from 6 - 11 p.m. at Circle R Ranch in Flower Mound.
Tickets are available for $60 per person or $650
