    RECOGNITIONS:

    Congratulations to Nithika Koka on her artwork being awarded second place at the district level for the Martin Luther King, Jr. annual art contest! She will be formally recognized in a public ceremony Monday, January 16, at 6:30pm at FMHS with the art display opening at 5:30pm. She is a fifth grade student of Kim Martich.

    Congratulations to Ellen Hirst on being selected the winner of the District PTA Reflections Intermediate Film Contest! Her entry now proceeds to the state level! She is a fourth grade student of Britin Nelson. 

    Congratulations to Kindergarten teacher Macee Thompson on receiving a Lewisville Education Foundation Changing Children’s Lives Award!

    Thank you to the volunteers who provided lunch supervision coverage so that staff could enjoy the PTA provided luncheon headed up by Stephanie Yost, Rona Kochenower, and Aspen Carroll! Thank you to each student and family who supported the Pennies for Pasta donation campaign this week! We will publish results next week.

    Please join the staff and PTA leadership at Liberty in thanking Vicki Toothman for all of her outstanding work and dedication on behalf of our students, families, and staff as an involved parent and PTA President! Vicki and her family are moving to Australia for two years and will be leaving us this weekend. As a parent, PTA volunteer, and community leader, Vicki has given tirelessly of herself for several years and will certainly leave a void in her absence. We say thank you for everything and wish you and your family all the best down under.

    As per the PTA bylaws, Vice President Kate Lapin will fulfill the role of PTA President for the remainder of the school year and Co Vice President Patricia Gonzalez will assume those duties fully.

     

    ACTION INFORMATION:

    Be sure to complete the online registration for your student to participate in the 21 Day Challenge.

    The yearbook is available for purchase online for just $22.00 at https://shop.smart-pay.com/ through the end of the month of January and is for those who did not purchase one through the Eagle Fee.

    A reminder that tickets for the 15th Anniversary Gala at the Bridlewood Golf Club on Friday, March 3, are available in the main office only at $75 per person, which covers the cost of a formal plated dinner with beverages, music, and dancing.

     

    EVENTS:

    There will be no school Monday, January 16, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday and Tuesday, January 17, for staff professional learning. We will return to school Wednesday, January 18.

    We will conduct a CPR/AED drill at school Wednesday, January 18, during the school day.

    Eagle Folders will be distributed Wednesday, January 18, due to not being in school the previous day.

    Mellow Mushroom will be hosting a Liberty Day from 11:00am-10:00pm Wednesday, January 18. Be sure to mention Liberty!

    Our annual Liberty geography bee will be held Thursday, January 19, in the cafeteria starting at 8:00am with the amended schedule listed at the end of this message.

    Third grade is taking a field trip to the Perot Museum from 8:45am to 2:00pm Thursday, January 19.

    The Friday, January 20, spirit day will be an Eagle Day with everyone encouraged to wear Liberty clothing.

    College and Career Awareness Week will run from Monday through Friday, January 23 through 27, culminating with guest speaker assemblies Friday with third, fourth, and fifth grades at 8:15am and Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade at 9:15am.

    Second nine weeks grades will be posted to the Skyward portfolio by Monday, January 23.

    The Building Leadership Team will meet Monday, January 23 at 3:30pm in the music room.

    Liberty will host the Flower Mound Feeder Pattern Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 24, starting at 8:00am with the amended schedule listed at the end of this message. Good luck to Liberty contestants Bailey Poore and Nikhil Sampath!

    The next PTA general meeting is Tuesday, January 24, in the cafeteria starting at 6:30pm and will include a musical performance by first grade.

    The 2017-2018 Registration Parent/Guardian Meeting will be January 24, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the McKamy cafeteria for all incoming 6th grade parents/guardians and 7:00pm to 7:30pm for returning 7th and 8th grade parents/guardians. Teachers and counselors will be available to answer questions about PAP or regular courses.

    PTA provided birthday treats and monthly celebration will be held during the lunch shifts Wednesday, January 25.

    Student Council will meet once again Wednesday, January 25, starting at 3:00pm. Members should wear a student council shirt.

    The next Tea Time with Tim sessions will be Thursday, January 26, 9:00am to 10:30am and 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

    The Friday, January 27, spirit day will be College Day with everyone invited to wear college or university items. 

    Our annual college and career awareness assemblies will be held Friday morning, January 27, in the cafeteria and feature guest presenters arranged by our school counselor Marinell Clark.

    Shadow Ridge Middle School is hosting an open house for all incoming sixth grade students and their families at 6:30pm Tuesday, January 31.

    The middle school counselors of McKamy and Shadow Ridge will visit with fifth grade students at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 1, in the cafeteria to discuss sixth grade enrollment for next school year.

    The 15th Anniversary Committee will next meet at 3:30pm in room 502 on Thursday, February 2.

    Friday, February 3, will be Super Bowl spirit day with everyone encouraged to wear the jerseys, hats, colors of the teams in the Super Bowl.

    We will celebrate the 100th Day of School with classroom activities for both Kindergarten and First Grade students with the Kindergarten Parade at 8:15am which is open to guests who would like to join us on Friday, February 3.

    We will commemorate National School Counseling Week, Kindness/Fill A Bucket Week, and American Heart Association Go Red Week all from Monday, February 6 through Friday, February 10.

    Please help us recognized the work of our school counselor Marinell Clark and crosswalk guards Sherrie Hawk and Brenda Poe in recognition ceremonies at 3:15pm Wednesday, February 8, at the apex of the library. 

    Our PTA is providing a specific parent/guardian education night named EAGLES Night on Monday, February 6, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.

     

    GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    Nominate outstanding fourth and fifth grade students for summer 2017 Lone Star Leadership Academy camps! Participants travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin/San Antonio, or Houston/Galveston area to join delegations of other distinguished students from across Texas for a week of fun, learning, leadership development, and visits to significant Texas destinations. Each day participants explore notable Texas sites, learn about unique careers from professionals, and work in small groups to develop specific leadership skills. In addition to improving their leadership abilities, participants gain self-confidence and independence and develop new friendships with other high-achieving students from across the state. Nominees must be in 4th-8th grade, maintain an 85 or higher average, demonstrate leadership ability, and be involved in school/community activities. Nominate by Friday, February 3, online at http://educationinaction.org/nominate-leaders.
